Code of Conduct for TNI Chaplains

The role of a TNI chaplain is to provide spiritual guidance and Christ-centred counsel to members of their respective chapters. To uphold the integrity of this position and ensure the smooth functioning of all chapters, the following Code of Conduct must be adhered to by all chaplains.

1. Spiritual Integrity

  • Maintain a close personal relationship with God through regular prayer, Bible study, and personal accountability.

  • Demonstrate Christ-like character in all interactions, reflecting the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).

  • Ensure that spiritual advice and counsel are based on Biblical principles.

2. Role Clarity

  • Understand that the primary role of the chaplain is spiritual guidance, not business facilitation or financial gain.

  • Avoid engaging in activities that could blur the distinction between spiritual care and business transactions.

3. Conflict of Interest

  • Refrain from entering into business dealings with members that could create a perception of favouritism, coercion, or financial impropriety.

  • Do not accept commissions, kickbacks, or financial benefits from any business arrangements involving group members.

  • If a business relationship arises naturally and without solicitation, disclose it transparently to the group’s leadership for accountability.

4. Use of Spiritual Authority

  • Never use spiritual authority to pressure, manipulate, or influence members in business decisions.

  • Avoid leveraging the chaplaincy role to gain personal or professional advantage.

5. Confidentiality

  • Treat all personal, spiritual, and business discussions shared in confidence with utmost discretion.

  • Do not disclose sensitive information about any member to others without their explicit consent, unless legally or morally obligated (e.g., cases of harm or abuse).

6. Neutrality and Impartiality

  • Treat all members equally, without showing favouritism or partiality.

  • Avoid taking sides in business disputes between members and instead provide neutral, Biblically sound counsel to foster reconciliation.

7. Transparency

  • Provide full disclosure of any potential conflicts of interest or biases that could affect the chaplaincy role.

  • Regularly update the group leadership on ministry activities and any challenges faced.

8. Accountability

  • Submit to the oversight and evaluation of TNI’s leadership to ensure adherence to the Code of Conduct.

  • Participate in periodic training or reviews to maintain the effectiveness of the chaplaincy role.

9. Prohibition of Misuse of Funds

  • Do not solicit donations or financial contributions from chapter members for personal or ministry purposes.

  • Avoid involvement in chapter financial management to prevent the appearance of impropriety.

10. Building Trust and Unity

  • Promote an atmosphere of trust, respect, and mutual edification among chapter members.

  • Act as a peacemaker in disputes and focus on fostering unity within the chapter (Matthew 5:9).

Enforcement

  • Violation of this Code of Conduct will result in a review by TNI’s leadership.

  • Disciplinary actions, including suspension or removal from the chaplaincy role, will be taken in cases of misconduct.

Acknowledgment

All chaplains must review, agree to, and sign this Code of Conduct before assuming their role. By signing, the chaplain acknowledges their commitment to upholding the principles and responsibilities outlined in this document.
